Problem
I posted a little while ago, about how my Epson R300 would print immediately
when I wanted to print something (even a page of black text) but if I wanted
to print a second job it would sit there for 5 minutes before printing that
second job. The Epson tech support said I should uninstall and reinstall
drivers, which I did, and that didn't help. It still prints immediately for
the first printing, and then waits 5 minutes.
Anyway, I have some more information. I have an HP laserprinter as well as
a Kodak Printer Dock. If I print something with the R300, and then try to
print with the Laserprinter or the Printer dock, IT ALSO WAITS 5 MINUTES!
So somehow the R300 is causing a 5 minute delay in whatever Windows uses to
control the printers. I tried fiddling with the spooling settings that
someone posted before, but that didn't work either.
Solution
- try this, if you are using winxp, check what port that your r300 is using from the printer properties(usb001 or whatever) take note of it then delete the icon of r300 from printers and faxes but make sure that there's no pending documents in the queue. and then go to server properties select drivers, if you can see r300 in the list attempt to remove it from there. after that in the same window go to port and delete the port that your r300 is using. go to the device manager and expand universal serial bus controllers and uninstall the usb printing support. then finally uninstall epson printer software. from here do the reinstallation..
- HP software and Epson software seem to conflict when they are both connected. To see if this is the case, try disconnecting all other printers from the computer except for the Epson.Try doing multiple prints now
- Use Task Manager to see what process is busy. If the hard drive is busy,
use Filemon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/nt w2k/utilities.shtml to see what files are
being accessed/written.
Try disabling your virus checker. - I assume you are using a USB connection with the R30. What else do you
have connected via USB? Have you tried to use the R300 on its own with
it connected directly to the computer USB plug without any router or
other USB wiring? (Direct cable from computer to printer). If so, is
the result the same?
If not, slowly plug in each USB peripheral you use, and when the system
goes into this 5 minute wait again, that's either the problem peripheral
(conflict or sleep/delay built into the software) or you have reached
some limit of your USB system.
Have you checked the power management for the USB connection via XP?
(Device Manager, USB Controllers, Properties, Power Management)
Try to disable the Power Management 'feature' in XP and see if that helps.
Problem
Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation
Solution
- I have had a R300M for a while now and had a few cartridges in it. (Mostly Compatible Cartridges not OEM) Recently a message came up on the screen 'parts inside your printer are at the end of their life' and the printer refused to work!
After searching the web it appears to be a waste ink counter, but I could not find any info on resetting it.
Tried pressing different combinations of buttons on the printer and success. (Found Ink counter reset)
Press and hold 'stop' 'maintenance'(ink button) and 'power' buttons for about 10 seconds,(while printer is on) a message will come up on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn off.
Thats it, turned my printer back on, and all works fine again.
I hope this helps R300/R300M owners out! (Also I have email into Epson Support, can't wait to hear what they say the problem is for the fix!)
- Service Required Parts Inside your printer is at the end of service life. This message refers to the ink pads, which are actually a number of porous pads in the printer that collect, distribute, and very importantly contain the ink that is not used on printed pages. Ink is collected by these pads during the initial setup of the product, during cleaning cycles and when printing borderless photographs. Most users will not receive this message before the printer is replaced for other reasons. Some high volume users or those who use the printer for many years may receive this message about ink pads before other components reach the end of their usable live.
The best solution that we can advice regardding this error message are the following:
1. Download the Epson Ink Pad Reset Utility athttp://www.epson.com/ipr
2. Since the ink pad is full. It is recommended to send the printer to the nearest authorized epson service center.
Problem
my printer says service required parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life see you printers documentationfor details but i cannot find any documents or disc at the moment
Solution
- Pop on over to http://www.TheServiceManualShop.comand download their R300 Rescue Kit. It has everything you need to fix this problem and many more besides.
The kit is avaialble as an instant download.
You can also find similar athttp://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/8... - There is a counter inside the printer, which counts the amount of use the printer has done. When this counter reaches a preset limit, it shuts the printer down and displays the message you have mentioned. There is a reset program on the net to reset this counter and enable the printer to work again. I cant remember the name of the program, but I'm sure you will find it, if you google r300 reset.
- Turn off printer. Press stop, maintenance and power bottons
at the same time.
Problem
Printer was working fine yesterday, now it won't start. Power is getting to printer but not doing anything. Lights green (Basic) and red (Maintenance) may flash briefly or remain lit when both power and stop are pressed but then die. Any ideas?
Solution
- These new printers has internal counters... maybe you already have reached its limit... it is a part of its maintenance that it needs to be serviced... but there is this utility software that resets the counter to zero, just download the sscservice.exe file and run the program on your system... don't worry its easy to use.

Well firstly, its not that you are stupid to this, it is the fact that these companies did not design their technology to be easily used, thats why they have their engineers, so they can still make money with the aftercare that is invariably needed.
Anyway, t best suggestion that can be given here is to get yorself a copy of adobe acrobat reader (from the interent by typing adobe reader free download into google), as you will need this in order to read the instruction manual that you will get from the internet by typing into google "Epson tylus DX4450 instuction manual". This will take you to a website whereyou can get the manual. Now the reason for getting adobe acrobat, is that themanuals are usually transported in PDF (adobe) format, and unless you get the programme, you wont be able to open the file.
I reckon you should also try http://www.epson.com in order to search for the manual ther, it wll be under the support/ service support section i reckon, and you should be able to download it from there. If not, then its good old fashioned google (as mentioned above) in order to ge what you need.
I hope this works, and if there is anything else that you may need assistance with, then please do contact me, and i will gladly be of assistance. Good luck- "Well firstly, its not that you are stupid to this, it is the fact that these companies did not design their technology to be easily used, thats why they have their engineers, so they can still make money with the aftercare that is invariably needed.
Problem
I can print photos no problem, but when I try to print a CD/DVD it won't do it. The tray feeds in and then feeds straight out. The printer asks me to reload the tray and press the maintenance button, which I do, and it does the same again. There is nothing in the troubleshooting guide to cover this so any help would be appreciated.
Solution
- Mine did the same, whilst they are very, very fussy the main problem is that you need a few inches of clear space at the rear of the printer when you print CD/DVD because the tray has to be able to pass out the back of the printer before being drawn back in.
- you need to push the tray in until it is held between the rollers.
